STUZZY

(Seeklogo,2023)

ABOUT

On September 5, 2017, the Stussy Brand Guide provided a history of the Stussy brand. The brand has had a significant impact on streetwear culture with its graphic-emblazoned basics like t-shirts and caps, riffs on recognizable logos, and references to music and subcultures. The brand was founded by Shawn Stussy in the early 1980s on Laguna Beach, California, where he began shaping surfboards and adorning them with unique graphics.

The distinctive Stüssy logo was created when Shawn began scribbling his surname with a black marker pen on the surfboards, influenced by the signature of his artist uncle, Jan Stussy. To supplement his income, Shawn began using the logo on a range of clothing items, which he sold out of his car on Laguna Beach. Eventually, the brand gained credibility among California's cool kids, and in 1984, they opened their own store to sell the clothing exclusively. By 1990, the brand was making a $17 million turnover. Shawn Stussy then began traveling the rest of the country and the world to expand his vision. James Jebbia, co-founder of Union store in New York's SoHo neighborhood and future founder of Supreme, was one of the brand's early champions. Jebbia partnered with Shawn to open the brand's first flagship store near Union, which helped spread the brand's reach and reputation globally. Today, Stussy remains one of the biggest streetwear brands around (aphrodite,2023)

SUPREME

ABOUT

James Jebbia, the founder and current leader of Supreme, a company that produces clothing, skateboards, and other trendy items that are highly sought after by its followers, views the brand as more than just a label that has grown into an iconic global phenomenon since its humble beginnings in a small store on Lafayette Street in 1994.

Instead, Jebbia sees Supreme as a concept that originated in the elusive and cool shops he frequented during his teenage years in Crawley, West Sussex, where he worked at a Duracell factory and saved his money to buy clothes on trips to London. Jebbia's vision for Supreme is centered around a space that carries the cool stuff that everyone wants to wear, free from big brands or commercialism
