E-commerce allows for seamless transactions between buyers and sellers through the internet. The availability of diverse the different types of e-commerce business models has made it easier for creative entrepreneurs to turn their visions into reality.
The e-commerce types include :
B2B (Business to Business)
Business-to-business (B2B), also known as B-to-B, encompasses transactions between businesses, like a manufacturer and a wholesaler, or a wholesaler and a retailer. This type of commerce involves dealings between companies, rather than between a company and individual consumers. It's different from business-to-consumer (B2C) and business-to-government (B2G) transactions (Chen, 2022)
B2C (Business to consumers)
Business-to-consumer (B2C) refers to the direct sale of goods and services from a business to end-user consumers. Companies that sell directly to consumers are typically referred to as B2C companies. The B2C business model gained widespread popularity during the late 1990s dotcom boom, particularly in reference to online retailers selling products and services to consumers via the internet. B2C differs significantly from the business-to-business (B2B) model, which involves commerce between businesses. (Kenton, 2023)
C2C (Consumer to Consumers)
In a customer-to-customer (C2C) business model, customers interact with each other for the purpose of trade, usually through an online platform. This type of market is exemplified by both auctions and classified ads. The growth of C2C commerce has been greatly facilitated by the internet, with companies such as eBay, Etsy, and Craigslist being leading players in this space (Tarver, 2022).
C2B (Consumers to Business)
Consumer-to-business (C2B) is a business model in which the end user or consumer creates a product or service that a company then uses to improve their operations or gain a competitive edge. This approach reverses the traditional business-to-consumer (B2C) model, where a business produces goods and services for consumer consumption (techopedia,2022)
