DATABASE ADVANTAGES AND CONCEPTS SUCH AS PRIMARY AND FORIEGN KEYS

 ADVANTAGES OF DATABASE.

Data consistency

The existence of data redundancy is avoided in a database to achieve data consistency. This means that all data is uniform throughout the database and is identical for all users who access it. Additionally, any alterations made to the database are promptly applied to all users, preventing any discrepancies in the data (kristi,2020).

Data Security

Ensuring data security is a crucial aspect of managing a database. Access to the database should only be granted to authorized users who can authenticate their identity through a username and password. Any attempt by unauthorized users to access the database should be prevented, as it would compromise the integrity constraints (kristi,2020).

Privacy

In a database, the principle of privacy dictates that access should only be granted to authorized users in accordance with the established privacy constraints. The level of access to the database is restricted, meaning that users can only view data that they are authorized to see. For instance, on social networking sites, the access constraints for different accounts may vary, depending on the user's privileges (kristi,2020).

Robust backup and recovery

One major challenge for businesses is the possibility of data loss. Traditional file systems require manual backups of data, which can be a time-consuming process, particularly for large amounts of data. To address this issue, the use of DBMS has become increasingly popular. DBMSs are equipped with powerful software that enables automatic backup and recovery of the database in the event of failures. By following preset schedules, they can ensure automatic backup for all of your data, thereby reducing the risk of data loss (Valcheva, 2020).

No Redundant Data

One of the key benefits of database is the removal of redundancy in data storage. By eliminating data duplication, storage space is saved, and access times are improved. Instead of having multiple copies of the same data for each user in a company, database enables centralized storage for all data, making storage space more efficient (Valcheva, 2020)..

PRIMARY KEY

A primary key is a column or a combination of columns that serves as a unique identifier for each record in the table. Its primary purpose is to facilitate fast and efficient data retrieval from the table. It is important to note that a table can only have one primary key (Rabelo,2020).

The main characteristics of a primary key are as follows:

  1. It must have a distinct value for each record in the table.
  2. It cannot contain null values.
  3. Each record in the table must have a primary key value.

(Yasar, 2022)

FOEIEGN KEY

A foreign key is a column or a set of columns that establishes a connection between two tables by referencing the primary key of another table. This cross-reference enables the data to be linked between the tables. The majority of tables in a relational database system use the foreign key concept. In large and intricate databases or data warehouses, data must be stored across multiple tables while maintaining their relationships. The principle of referential integrity is built upon the theory of foreign keys (Rabelo,2020).
